Alli linked with PSG switch as Mourinho explains his absence from Spurs squad | The Football Faithful

Dele Alli is apparently attracting the attentions of Champions League finalists PSG after the midfielder was once again left out of Spurs’ squad for their 5-2 win over Southampton.

Alli was once the golden boy of English football following his meteoric rise after moving to Spurs from MK Dons for just £5 million back in 2015, scoring 37 goals and providing 29 assists during his first three seasons in the Premier League.

Since then though, the midfielder’s attacking output has steadily declined, the 24-year-old sliding out of Gareth Southgate’s recent England selections following his downturn in form.

During the recent ‘All or Nothing’ documentary, Jose Mourinho was heard calling out Alli for being a ‘F*cking lazy guy in training’, and while he saw a brief upturn in his form following the Portuguese’s appointment as Spurs boss last November, his form has once again tailed off.

He was withdrawn at half-time in the club’s dire opening day defeat to Everton – a game which Mourinho accused his side of applying ‘lazy pressure up front’ – before Alli was completely left out of the matchday 18 for the subsequent games against Lokomotiv Plovdiv and Southampton.

Speaking before the game on the South Coast, Mourinho said Alli’s absence was because he had too many attacking players at his disposal.

“No [his absence is not due to fitness issues], we have a huge squad with numbers that are very difficult to manage,” he told BT Sport. “I never had it, I don’t want to have it and it’s not easy for me to be here with 18 players and to have 10 training at the training ground.

“Too many players, so I start with Son, with Lucas [Moura], with Harry [Kane]. On the bench, I still have Moussa Sissoko, [Erik] Lamela, [Steven] Bergwijn. We have too many players for some positions and some of them are paying the price of this.”

Alli was reportedly offered to Real Madrid as part of the negotiations that saw Gareth Bale make his long-awaited return to the North London club this week, though they had no interest in taking him to the Bernabeu, but according to the Telegraph, he is attracting the attention of both PSG and Inter Milan.

The report says that Thomas Tuchel’s side have opened talks about a potential move to the Parc des Princes, although the nature of a potential deal – whether permanent or on loan – remains ‘unclear’ at present.

A move to the Champions League finalists would offer Spurs the opportunity to lighten their wage bill, while it would also offer Alli the chance to rediscover the form which once saw him rated as one of Europe’s top attacking midfielders.
