‘It’s incredible’ – Four goal Son hails Kane as Spurs smash five past Southampton | The Football Faithful

An attacking masterclass from Son Heung Min and Harry Kane saw Spurs beat Southampton 5-2 in a hugely entertaining encounter on the south coast today.

After their horror show in the 1-0 defeat to Everton last weekend, Spurs fans must have been fearing the worst when England striker Danny Ings put the Saints ahead on 32 minutes with a brilliantly taken touch and finish.

However, on the stroke of half-time, a Spurs counter-attack would see Kane find Son with ball in behind the Southampton defence and the South Korean clinically levelled the scores.

By the 64th minute Son had sealed his hat-trick and each goal was the same, skipper Kane playing an excellent ball behind the home side’s high defensive line, and the Spurs number 7 applying the finishing touch with aplomb.

The duo then repeated the trick for Son to net his fourth before Kane tapped home from close range for the goal that his superb all-round display merited.

Ings would net a consolation in the last minute for Ralph Hassenhuttl’s side, the former Liverpool man blasting home a penalty for his second of the match.

Spurs once again looked pretty uninspired during the first period, but the Saints just couldn’t handle the clinical nature of the Son and Kane link-up, and fans of the north London side will surely be buzzing to seal their first win of the season on the back of securing the high-profile signings of club legend Gareth Bale and highly-rated left-back Sergio Reguilon.

Speaking afterwards, four-goal hero Son showed his humble side by paying homage to Kane, who became only the sixth player in Premier League history to provide four assists in a single game.

“It’s incredible. To score three goals in the Premier League is a big honour. With this guy [Harry Kane], four amazing assists and to score a goal, I think he deserves Man of the Match today,” Son told Sky Sports.

“We are working almost now for five seasons together. We know what we like. Obviously Harry is one of the best strikers. We are working together so many times.

”We work so hard to have a good relationship off the pitch and on it. I enjoy working with this amazing player and hopefully many more to come.

Son admitted scoring the equaliser just before the break was crucial, but felt his side could have scored even more than five considering how they performed during the second-half.

“I think it was very important, especially at the end of the first half,” Son continued.

”We struggled in the first half a little bit and didn’t play the way we wanted.

“We deserved the win and came back strongly in the second half. It was a bit of a shame not to score more than five goals.”

Spurs face a busy schedule over the next week, with midweek Carabao and Europa League fixtures coming before their home Premier League meeting with Newcastle next Sunday.
